Lost Loveliness

July 31, 2012

"Old books that have ceased to be of service should no more be abandoned than should old friends who have ceased to give pleasure." ~ Bernard Baruch

And...........in my opinion, I hate to see once lovely old houses abandoned to ruin and rot.

We did have one short "backroads" excursion on our way to take Bill's car to Lexington, KY for the car show. Backroads weren't real conducive to a 1 ton pickup that was pulling a covered trailer with his Fairlane in it - but............we were so close to where my grandmother was born, and her grandparents lived in Kentucky after they moved from Virginia that Bill agreed to go see some of the old places. The tiny villages that they lived in are WAY off the main throughfares and so we did get about 3 hours of backroads that we both love. On a tiny little road near Center, KY I spotted this old house and we stopped and walked around. I took lots of photos and just really enjoyed our time there.

This must have been quite a showplace in it's day, it's just sad to see it in such disrepair. That's one of the things that I love about Waxahachie, Texas where I live. It is chock full of homes that are 150 years old and newer that have been well cared for, and still lovely, with vibrant families that care for them.

Best viewed in X2 or X3.

Have a happy day today my friends, and remember that there's a lot to learn from history.
