Jennifer is in Texas!!! One of the first places that I took her was to the old, and historical town square of Waxahachie, Texas where I live. She visited the Hancock building that is a two story commercial building at 205 S. College which was constructed in 1890. It has been home to many businesses over the years, and today it is home to the Ellis County Museum. I have lots of other photos of Jennifer that I will post in the coming days and will upload a gallery of shots to her Smugmug site "Jennifer's Road Trip." Hope you enjoy seeing her in Texas in some of my next few days shots..........lots more to come. Best viewed in larger sizes. I've been remiss on commenting & will likely be so on posting in the next several days - work & life are just over the top busy right now, and I have little spare time. Thank you for your comments!!! Have a grand day today my friends! Linda

Jennifer "hanging out" on a 1962 Chevy Impala and our friend Allen who owns this awesome 1962 Chevy Impala is behind the wheel with a big smile.

It's been fun having Jennifer and I will be posting a couple more photos on the Dailies, but then will upload to Jennifer's Road trip gallery to whole serious.

I sure enjoyed and got lots of laughs from all your comments about the shot of Jennifer yesterday. Thanks very much.

TGIF!!!

    Jennifer's Road Trip

Jennifer's visit to Waxahachie, Texas. Founded in 1850, Waxahachie was the birthplace of Tom Blasingame, considered the oldest cowboy in the history of the American West, R&B singer Tevin Campbell, Bill Ham (manager for ZZ Top), Byron Nelson, a professional golf legend and Academy Award winning director Robert Benton, who made his 1984 film " Places in the Heart" in his hometown. The city is also known as the Gingerbread City because of its many beautiful and old, well preserved Victorian homes. There is an annual celebration called the Gingerbread Trail, where many of the wonderful old homes are open to tour. It's also known as the Crepe Myrtle Capital of Texas, and there is a festival to celebrate that too. The town is very beautiful and has an active community with lots of community celebrations. Another is the "Bob Phillips" festival which celebrates another native son that is the host of the TV show Texas Country Reporter. In 1988 the area around Waxahachie was chosen as the site for the Superconducting Super Collider, which was to be the world's largest and most energetic particle accelerator, with a planned ring circumference of 87.1 kilometers (54.1 mi). Seventeen shafts were sunk and 23.5 km (14.6 mi) of tunnel were bored[4] before the project was cancelled by Congress in 1993. The town is also the namesake of the former United States Naval ship USS Waxahachie. The first syllable is pronounced "wahks", not "wax" as is often the case. Also, the official Native American meaning of the name is "cow creek" or "buffalo creek" and is not the name of a Native American tribe which is a common misconception.

July 19, 2012 Another photo of Jennifer on her road trip and stop in Waxahachie, TX. We had so much fun, and here she and I are "posing" in the 2007 Rousch Mustang at our home. It was a hot day, and we'd been out taking photos for several hours, so I thought this might be a fun shot to share with the Family of Smugmuggers taken at the end of a day with Jennifer. This photo is obviously taken by Bill who was a great sport as we traveled around town finding photo ops for Jennifer. I'll try to get caught up this weekend on comments (I've been woefully behind due to being very busy at work), and also post more photos of the Texas leg of Jennifer's road trip. This week has just been a killer, and next week I'm traveling again for work. So...... I may miss some daily posts, and I know that I'll be behind in commenting. However, just know that I do from time to time during the day get a chance to catch quick peeks in on the Daily's and I admire your stunning work. I look at the Daily photos when I'm drifting off in conference calls - but I can't take my mind off the call enough to give a thoughtful comment. Jennifer is off today for her next stop on her road trip. She will be landing in Ireland soon. Have a brilliant day today my friends, Linda

Waxahachie, Texas is located in Ellis County, and is the County Seat. Jennifer wanted to visit this lovely old courthouse that was donstructed in 1897 in the Romanesque Revival Style by Architect J. Riely Gordon.

As mentioned Waxahachie is the Crepe Myrtle Captial of Texas, so she wanted to see some of the lovely trees - she actually saw quite a few and got her photo made with them.

Then - Jennifer wanted to visit the lovely Getzendaner park in Waxahachie that is covered with wonderful old trees. She decided to just hang out for awhile and enjoy the shade of this lovely old tree, because it was a very, very hot day!

    Jennifer's Road Trip to Texas

  • We took Jennifer to dinner with us at a local restaurant named the Catfish Plantation, which is rumoured to be haunted.

According to a posting on the Intranet by Rick Moran: The term “Haunted,” as any respectable Ghost Hunter will tell you, is a relative term and often misunderstood by the public; but one thing all paranormal investigators agree with is that the 1895 Victorian at 814 Water Street in Waxahachie is most definitely the residence of several earthbound spirits.
In 1984, Tom and Melissa Baker found the property, which had been empty for several years and while it was not the perfect location to start a restaurant, they both agreed that the house had a certain charm that could not be denied. Neither were big fans of the paranormal but shortly after purchasing the property, things began to happen that would make them true believers.
While only the couple had the keys to the building, Melissa began to find that she was obviously not the only one with access. One day, she came in to find a large tea urn, with neatly stacked coffee cups inside, which had somehow been transported to the middle of the floor, far away from where they belonged. On another morning, she came in to find fresh brewed coffee waiting for her!
Once opened, employees began to tell strange stories; a fry basket levitating in the kitchen, a glowing blue light illuminating a room that was otherwise empty and the ghostly figure of a bride standing by a front window. The sheer number of reports was overwhelming and paranormal investigators were invited to give their impressions of the old house. What they found was a list of characters from Waxahachie’s past, each with distinct personalities, each existing independent of one other at the restaurant.
Among the resident spirits is a man who likes to “flirt” with female guest by touching their knee or shoulder or playing with their long hair; a young female who seems confused by her surroundings and “Caroline,” a previous owner who sometimes becomes short tempered because she sees herself as still being the head of the household.
In 2007 the Bakers sold the restaurant and its ghostly inhabitants to the Landis Family who invited the nationally acclaimed Association for the Study of Unexplained Phenomenon to reinvestigate the locale. Using state of the art research equipment, the 40 year old ASUP confirmed several spirits, who freely interacted with the field investigators. All of the spirits at the Catfish Plantation are categorized as “friendly and positive,” according to the group’s chief investigator.
In a later TV segment filmed at the Catfish Plantation for the Travel Channel, one senior investigator was sitting in a side room talking about the history of the building, when he noted a shocked look on the faces of several of the folks in the room. A ghostly apparition had come to the doorway from the nearby restroom and hovered behind him for several minutes, only to dematerialize when one of the people interrupted him to say there was a ghost standing nearby. The ghost apparently was pleased to hear his story.
Today, the Catfish Plantation and the Landis Family is dedicated to offering the best in Cajun style cuisine, while keeping the ghostly traditions alive. The locale has been featured on a host of TV program on all the major networks, in newspaper and magazine articles worldwide and has welcomed those who want to learn more about their earth bound spirit residents while enjoying the best food and the warmest ambiance available anywhere!

The Sisterhood of the Bras asked that each host give Jennifer some "bling" before sending her off to her next stop. I chose a rhinestone "Bee" pin for her because I thought it was reflective of how many insect photos that we see on our Daily Community from all the members. I've always loved insects, so I thought it would be fun for her to carry a little Bee with her on her travels.

I'm going to be uploading one more photo (I think) of Jennifer's trip to Texas to the Daily Community probably tomorrow. However, look for many, many more of Jennifer to be on her trip sight. More of cars, more from around town, and other places.

Wow, has this been one heck of a hectic week! Have a wonderful weekend my friends!!!

  • We couldn't let Jennifer leave Texas without having a good old fashioned Tailgate Party. I think she had a good time enjoying beer from both Texas & Mexico. Would that be called a TexMex Tailgate Party?

October 29, 2017 In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Day, 2017 I'm positing this photo of Jennifer's newest bling. She has been visiting me in Texas. What better "bling" to add to her collection, as a remembrance of her visit here, than a glittery Texas Longhorn pin? Jennifer is one of the founding members of "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bras." I will post more from Jennifer's trip in a few days. Linda
