The Rusty Cafe :-)
October 10, 2011
A very old neon sign (not working) from the Palo Pinto Cafe in Palo Pinto Texas. We had just started our 2,200 mile trip from Texas to & through New Mexico, when we stopped to take this shot & explore the old cafe building that sat under this sign.
I loved all the textures of the sign, the rust, the old paint, the tangle of wires and of course the bird's nest. :-)) I can use my imagination to think how cool this sign was with all the neon working - I envision this being a cool sign, a real eye-catcher. I think that the neon triangles on the outer part of the structure that makes an arrow aroung the main part of the sign, are pointing to the cafe and must have lit up one at a time to lead the hungry traveler to this neat old place. I tried to clone out some of the highline wires under the sign, but I've not mastered that technique at all - more work, or maybe a class is in order. Nevertheless, except for those blunders (easy to see in X2) I still liked the look of this old sign. I worked on it for awhile, got frustrated - said, 'what the heck' - "I like this photo" & I uploaded to SmugMug - so here it is.
After uploading - I saw that I didn't clone out some of the wires to the right side of the shot (tried to get them to disappear under the sign) that were connected to the wires I cloned out (badly). I had to laugh at me, but oh well, it is what it is. At least the character & history of the sign are intact. I hope you enjoy the history here & overlook my ameteurish efforts.
Thank you all so much for your awesome comments on the Orangeade container from yesterday's POTD. It's only my second #1 shot in two years, and I was humbled and overwhelmed with the responses from such great photographers. THANK YOU!!!!
Have a wonderful Columbus Day today!
