The Red Rocks of Sedona
March 2, 2016
While we were on vacation between Christmas and New Years our ultimate destination was Arizona. However, the blizzard in west Texas and eastern New Mexico cost us a couple of days. When we could finally find good/clear roads, we drove as quickly as we could into Arizona and spent a couple of days around Jerome and another couple of days around Sedona. Sedona is one of THE most beautiful places in the United States IMHO. As we were leaving Sedona, we saw a road that looked promising. We love backroads adventures and all the awesome sights that they can sometimes yield. So we headed out one morning on a road called Schnebly Road that according to the map would eventually take us to I-17 into Flagstaff.
Well, it was the roughest road/trail ever - thank goodness we were in a 4-wheel drive vehicle. It was so bouncy that after 3 hours in the car, my Fitbit had registered over 10,000 steps, and I'd maybe taken 10 steps. LOL.
Nevertheless, it was glorious! The scenery was breathtaking and we were so glad that we took this road..........until we were about 3 miles from the interstate, and found a locked gate. Dang! We had to turn around and backtrack the 3 hours back down Schnebly Road and re-route to get to the Interstate.
Oh well, it was fun - we saw such amazing landscapes. This photo is one of MANY that I took along our adventurous path.
