Getzendaner Park, Waxahachie, Texas
A few weeks ago (April, 2011) our area suffered 80 mph straight line winds and ferocious thunder storms. There was lots of damage around town, but one of the saddest sites was this huge old oak tree that was lost. There's no telling how old this tree was when it blew over, but I'm sure it was well more than 100 years. These beautiful trees are all over the park, fortunately this was the only one that suffered a catastrophic loss. If you look closely under the branches to the left side of the photo, you can see a patch of blue - that is one of the park restrooms that the tree fell over on top of.
Best viewed in X2 to see the enormity of the tree.
