This is my sweet sister's family. She's the blonde in the middle. Her husband is to her left. Her two son's Nick (blue vest and shirt) and Dylan (with cowboy hat) were all together with sister's Father and Mother-in-law here at our house for Thanksgiving. We are so blessed!

    My Misty

April 29, 2017 This is a photo from the pre-bridal photo shoot that I did for my sweet Misty. I call her my #2 daughter. She's been a part of mine and my natural daughter's life all of their lives. They are best friends. Misty lived with us for a few years and we got so close and happily still are. Misty is standing in an old doorway of one of the old buildings in Waxahachie, TX. We had such fun that day many years ago. Gone, But Not Forgotten

December 23, 2016 This is a scan of a photo from about 1990. It is a photo of my Mother Betty and my younger brother Craig. Today would have been my Mother's 90th birthday, and a month ago (November 22nd) would have been my brother's 51st birthday. Today I wish a happy 90th birthday in heaven to my mother, and a belated happy birthday to my brother Craig in heaven,. Thank you for your comments and critiques, Linda

  • A Portrait of Pure Focus

    A Portrait of Pure Focus

September 28, 2016 This is my husband Bill. We enjoy shooting Sporting Clays, which is a clay target (clay pigeon) game, which has often been described as shooting skeet that are on steroids. It is a very challenging game, and Bill is really, really good at it. Typically, it's a hundred shot course where the machines throw the clay targets in ways that cause them to mimic birds/animals in nature. For example, there's a target called "the rabbit" where the clay is flung across the field and it rolls on it's edge. Any rock or imperfection on the field that it encounters causes the "rabbit" to hop and jump. In this photo Bill is focused on where the clay target will be thrown and is getting ready to call "Pull" which alerts the Trapper (the guy/girl) working the machine to fling the target. "Life is a song - sing it. Life is a game - play it. Life is a challenge - meet it. Life is a dream - realize it. Life is a sacrifice - offer it. Life is love - enjoy it." ~ Sai Baba Thank you for your comments and critiques on both my new and older photos. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to comment on any photos yesterday, I'll try to catch up this evening. Have a focused day today my friends! Linda

September 16, 2016 This is a photo of my sister from our trip last Christmas to Arizona. We climbed up on the tallest rock we were near enough to climb. She's a better climber than me, but I eventually got there. This was taken in the beautiful red rocks around Sedona. "I think the American West really attracts me because it's romantic. May 15, 2016 This is a photo of my sister "high on a mountain" near Sedona, AZ. She's a bit of a mountain goat even today and loves to climb up to the highest point. I got a kick out of her trying to capture the magnificent and breath-taking scenery of the valley and surrounding red-rock mountains with her cell phone. Thank you for your comments and critiques. • Circa 1918-1919

    Circa 1918-1919

November 16, 2015 This forest green silk turban features tan, black, brown, red and green braided straw accents. Trimmed with an iridescent orange and green plume from an Asian Pheasant. When Ferdinand Magellan returned to Europe with skins from birds collected in New Guinea, they were so beautiful that people believed they must have come from out of this world. These exotic "Birds-of-Paradise" became so highly sought-after for their richly colored plumes that by the early 1900s up to 80,000 were being killed annually for export. Birds-of-paradise were not the only victims. Hundreds of millions of birds were killed for women's hats. The plume trade helped drive the Carolina parakeet and tthe New Zeland Huia to extinction and nearly eradicated great crested Grebes, Rheas, Emus, Africa's Ostrich herds and Britain's Gull and Kittiwake colonies. America's Snowy Egrets and the Great Egrets were especially favored for their beautiful breeding plumes. In 1903, these feathers sold for $32 an ounce, essentially twice their weight in gold. Small birds were not immune either. On two walks through New York City in 1886, biologist Frank Chapman identified 40 bird species on hats. In Florida, in an effort to control plume hunting, the American Ornithologists Union and the National Association of Audubon Societies (now the National Audubon Society) persuaded the Florida State Legislature to pass a model non-game bird protection law in 1901. These organizations then employed wardens to protect rookeries, in effect establishing colonial bird sanctuaries. Such public concern, combined with the conservation-minded President Theodore Roosevelt, who by an executive order of President on March 14, 1903 established Pelican Island as the first national wildlife refuge in the United States to protect egrets and other birds from extinction by plume hunters. These and other efforts began to stem the tide of harvesting bird feathers for fashion. Today, it is (thankfully) illegal to possess many of the exotic bird feathers. Have a great day today! Thank you for your comments and critiques. Linda

  • Finally, A Little Fall Color in North Texas

Finally, A Little Fall Color in North Texas

November 15, 2015 I've been really enjoying all of your photos of the wonderful Fall colors around the world. And, I've been patiently waiting to get a little around our house that I could share. So here's a shot of one of our Red Oak trees in the backyard that are slowly starting to turn their leaves to the colors of Fall. Most of the leaves are still green, but there's few that are turning gold and red. Yay! "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower." ~ Albert Camus I'm leaving on another Jet Plane (isn't there a song about that?) again tomorrow. I'll be gone all week, but will do my best to keep up with browsing and commenting on your photos. Have a wonderful day today my friends, and thank you for your comments and critiques. Linda

  • College Fjord Glacier

    College Fjord Glacier

November 14, 2015 This is a small portion of the Yale Glacier in College Fjord National Park Alaska. As mentioned before, all of the glaciers in the park are named for major colleges. The Harvard is the most well known and center-most glacier in the fjord, and widest, but the others have a unique beauty of their own. I liked the Yale Glacier a lot for it's thin profile, yet massive ice This photo of the Yale Glacier pictures the ice flow about midway up from the water-line of the Fjord, and it shows a nice view of the mountains surrounding the glacier. It's best viewed in larger sizes. "Glacial pace is actually an incorrect concept. The glaciers move a lot faster and they react a lot faster than people imagine." ~ James Balog Best viewed in larger sizes. Have a grand day today my friends! Waiting For Their Forever Home

November 12, 2105 This collection of brightly attired rabbits caught my eye in a store primarily due to the fact that I like rabbits. But secondarily, I really loved all the different costumes and accessories they were wearing. It was a most cheerful collection of bunnies. It's best viewed in the larger sizes. I used a Topaz Simplify Painting filter to give it a sort of painterly feel. "Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen." ~ John Steinbeck Thank you for your comments and critiques! Have a fun-filled day! Linda

October 4, 2015 This is our son-in-law Mortiz, also known as "Mo" and it was taken by me shortly after mine and Bill's wedding. He was having such a fun time with all the kids, and particularly granddaughter Abigail. Obviously, Abigail was having a good time too. In this photo Abigail and her twin brother were 9 months old, today they are 7. I stumbled across this photo the other night while looking for another, and decided to post it and share the joy. April 11, 2015 This is a photo of my brother Marty Logan. As I've mentioned before he is a Pro-Mod boat racer, and he won the 2014 championship. This photo was taken a few years ago at a race in Fort Worth, Texas. He is wearing his crew shirt, and the reason for the flower lei is that he is just about 10 minutes away from marrying his lovely wife Michelle. It was a fun wedding, and even Michelle was wearing the boat crew's shirt. Have a day full of smiles today my friends! Linda http://www.lgood.smugmug.com

February 9, 2015 Here's another shot from the End of Trail event in California in 2004. To the far left side of the frame is our good friend Joe Bowman. Joe had an amazing life, but sadly we lost him about 5 years after this photo was taken. We had loads of good times with Joe, and he was a fine man, full for spirit and fun. If you have a chance, please check out the following link about Joe: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/06/us/06bowman.html?_r=0 The two other people Gene Pearcy and his wife. • Julie Won Her Favorite Necklace!

    Julie Won Her Favorite Necklace!

May 28, 2014 Based on my commentary on yesterday's potd, you'll recognize this as another of the 7 friends and our necklace exchange. This is Julie and the one that we celebrated her birthday. Besides us singing to her in the restaurant, when we got home Deb (another of the 7 girlfriends) sang "Happy Birthday" to her in Marilyn Monroe style. That was a hoot. Julie was happy with her necklace, even though she had to steal it from a couple of the other girls to finally get to keep it and to take it home with her. I think you can tell from her face that she loved it. "To be with old friends is very warming and comforting." ~ Ian Ziering Hug a friend today! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

  • Girlfriends!

    Girlfriends!

May 27, 2014 Several of the SM'ers that have been around for awhile know that I have 6 girlfriends that have been my best friends since we were 5 or 6 years old. And trust me - for all of us, that means we've been friends for more than 50 years. The 7 of us get together about 3 or 4 times a year for a weekend of laughter and fun. Generally, we go to one of our houses for the weekends, but sometimes we go elsewhere (have had the "girl's weekends" in Miami, Taos, Santa Fe, and we are talking about Ashville, NC soon). The last weekend we all got together was late April in Shawnee, OK at Deb's old/new house built in 1926 and recently remodeled to modern standards. What a fun time we had. 4 of the 7 of us have birthdays in February, and we celebrated Julie's birthday that was April 29th while in Shawnee. We all sang in high school together, and when we went out to dinner we sang happy birthday to Julie in our best acapella with soprano and alto voices. We got a big laugh, as the whole restaurant stood up and clapped after our song. Since I missed the last girl's weekend (darn that job. :-)) I brought surprise gift bags for everyone with necklaces in them for past, current & future 2014 birthday gifts. We played the white elephant exchange where you can steal from another, or open a new bag. It was a pleasant night to sip wine and steal necklaces from each other on Deb's front porch. This is my friend Chata and her "winning" necklace. She had to steal it once from Carolyn and once from Karen to get it, but as you can see she's happy with it. What a good time we had. Loads of laughs, we stayed up too late telling stories and talking, and just enjoyed being together for a weekend. Family

March 8, 2014 "Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten." ~ David Ogden Stiers When the train was almost gone, I was able to rustle up the crew and head them to the next photo site. Having 11 people to herd to the next spot wasn't always easy. But as I was directing them to the next place I wanted to shoot the family, this scene occured. We all had such a good time, loads of laughs & lots of good & funny photos. I love the human interaction, the family connection and the love that just pops off the screen from this shot. Papa Sonny took the hands of Cade and Preston, then Alyssa joined hands with Preston and grabbed her brother Keyson's hand as they walk to the next stop of the photo shoot. And the last of the train rolled by. Have a over the top, loving day today my friends. Grandfather and Grandkids

March 7, 2014 This is a shot of my brother-in-law and his grandson Cade and adopted granddaughter Alyssa while they were watching the train go by. The train's rumbling as it went by wasn't that loud, but Cade is ready to cover his ears if it blows it's whistle again. :-) "My role model was my grandfather. He instilled in me the feeling that no matter how successful you are you have a responsibility to help others." ~ Kevin Johnson Have an awesome day my friends! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

  • Train Watching

    Train Watching

March 6, 2014 So during the break to watch the train, I did get some good shots of sister's family. This is her youngest son Dylan with her two adopted grandchildren Alyssa and Kyson. This is one of my favorites from the shoot. I hope you enjoy. I like this because my sister's mandated dress code was "boots and jeans" - so this shot (in my opinion) really captures that theme. "Motivation is a fire from within. If someone else tries to light that fire under you, chances are it will burn very briefly." – Stephen R. Covey Thank you all for your comments on the "lost 'em" photo yesterday. Oddly enough about 8:30 p.m. (CST) my photo disappeared totally from the most popular - it was #5 before, then it was gone. I don't know what happened, but I will not worry about the disappearance. Thank you for your comments. You guys ROCK!!! Have a happy and carefree day today my friends! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

  • Lost 'em............AGAIN!

    Lost 'em............AGAIN!

March 5, 2014 As I've mentioned, it was really hard at times to keep my sister's family focused on the photo shoot. And the smallest boys got distracted very easily. At the point of this photo, I had them posed so nicely in front of one of the old train depots, but then.....a train began approching and I lost 'em. It was pretty funny, we stopped the shoot so everyone could watch the train go by. Even the adults loved it. The sun that day was just brutal and it was hard to find places that didn't cast harsh shadows or where the light wasn't so bright that everyone was squinting. I converted this one to B&W, then sepia to compensate a little for the harsh light. My sister had given the family the photo shoot theme of "boots and jeans" and I think all of their clothing was great for the family photo shoot. "I need distractions. Good distractions, not bad ones. A good distraction for me is a great play." ~ Danny Aiello Have a great day today full of "fun" distractions! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

  • A Father and Son Portrait

    A Father and Son Portrait

March 4, 2014 I loved this shot of my nephew Dylan and his son Preston (18 months old). They have such a good time together, and all of my sister's grandchildren, her sons and daughters-in-law were delightful to photograph. The afternoon was fun, hysterical at times, and never a dull moment. The frame and PP was done with PicMonkey. It thought it was a little funky, but I liked the result all the same. "Nothing I've ever done has given me more joys and rewards than being a father to my children." ~ Bill Cosby Have a joyful day today my friends! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

  • Lions, Grands and Smiles!

    Lions, Grands and Smiles!

March 3, 2014 There were a LOT of fabulous G photos yesterday! I really enjoyed browsing and commenting on all of them. For my G shot I used a small clamp that is a part of a sign that Bill's daughter made for him that says "Grandpa's Workshop". Many of you mentioned you'd like to see the whole sign. Thank you. Click below or copy paste the link to your browser to see the whole sign. If the link below doesn't work go to my site: http://lgood.com then look for the Humor gallery > Signs http://lgood.smugmug.com/Portfolio/Humor/Signs#!/i-QjWFctJ/A I so appreciate the support and friendship of the community! Another from the mini/maxi-series of photos from my sister's family photo shoot. This is at one of the two old depots in Waxahachie, Texas. There are two concrete lions flanking the front door. So I got the bright idea to put all the kids on one for a shot. Here's the funny part, the youngest in front is Preston, son of my nephew Dylan. He's fearless. So no sooner would we put him on the lion then step away for the photo, he would lean waaay over and almost fall off. You can imagine that all the watching adults were jumping to catch him. I've got lots of photos of that. So finally, his father squatted down behind the lion to hold him on. The picture turned out great, but I had to clone Dylan out of the photo (hiding behind the lion, but not totally hidden) and this is the result. "The family is one of nature's masterpieces." ~ George Santayana Enjoy your own personal masterpieces today. Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

  • Father & Son, Part II

    Father & Son, Part II

March 1, 2014 This is my younger nephew Dylan (who's laughing out loud in this shot). He is brother to Nick that you saw yesterday in my potd with his son Cade. Dylan is holding his son Preston, age 18 months on the back of the same red caboose that we used as one of the props for my sister's family photo shoot. In this shot Preston is reaching for his mother Tayler who is standing just in front of him. I thought the look on Preston's face was so sweet. He loves his mama and daddy. And they are dandy parents. The joy in Dylan's expression is priceless to me. "I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's protection." ~ Sigmund Freud Have an excellent day today my friends! Linda http://lgood.smugmug.com

  • Father & Son

    Father & Son

February 28,2014 This is a photo on the back of the old red caboose where we started my sister's family photo shoot. This is her oldest son Nick and his son Cade. Cade is 2.5 years old. Bless his heart, he had a hard time with the bright, bright sun this afternoon. Most of the time he wore his sunglasses, and didn't really like taking them off for photos. :-) Nick is a wonderful father, and his wife Crystal is an excellent mother. They just added a sister to the family for Cade. Her name is Presley. You saw my daughter holding her in a photo a couple of days ago. "My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me." ~ Jim Valvano As always, thank you guys so much for your comments on my photos. I learn so much from you. Kids!!!

February 26, 2014 Thank you all so much for your comments on my POTD yesterday. They were all so much appreciated by me. This is the start of the family shoot that I did for my sister and her family after our Christmas get together. It is going to be a maxi-series, as opposed to a mini series. I took 1,300 + photos of her family that day. It was a labor of love But, I have to tell you, the lighting was brutal! As I mentioned earlier, it was hard at times to keep all the kids focused on taking their photos. So I thought I'd start with a funny one. This is taken on the front of an old red train caboose. Top row is sister's adopted grands Keysen and Alyssa. Bottom row are her natural grandsons Cade and Preston. Preston is 18 months old and a perpetual motion machine. At this shot, he's had enough & and he's bailing......we just started shooting and he was done! LOL. There were some awesome letter enteries yesterday. I enjoyed browsing and I thank everyone for the comments left on my "B" letter.

This is a picture of my sister Tammy holding her grandson Preston. He is a little firecracker, and looks JUST EXACTLY like his father Dylan did at his age.

With this shot, I'll be starting a series of shots from our family Christmas get together. There were 30 people at the house. We had a ton of fun. Of course with that many guests at our house, we had our lunch and gift exchange in Bill's workshop.

After lunch, my sister asked me to do a photo shoot with her family. We had a great time, and I was honored to do it. As you can imagine though, keeping 6 adults and 5 kids all focused, still and eyes all open at the same time was rather challenging...all the while shooting in brutal light was tough. But it was a lot of laughs for all of us. You'll be seeing some of the sister's family in my upcoming series from her family's shoot.

    Cousins

February 6, 2012 Today is my birthday........and so I thought one of the best shots to post today is of my granddaughters Ashlee (age 12) and Eleanor (5 months old). Celebrating a birthday is most special when you can spend it with family. We are so blessed to have such a large and wonderful family. I just loved this sweet photo, and it's evident that Ashlee is enjoying one of the newest members of our family. Unfortunately, I'm headed to Birmingham, AL later today, and will miss spending my birthday with my family. Thanks to all of you that posted Bday wishes on Facebook, you guys are the best!!!!! You make my heart sing every day. And, thanks too for all your great comments on little red-headed Cade's photo with his Great Grandpa, and for bringing back the old Daily from last year of the red cars. I was just thrilled with all of them, and they really made me smile. Have a great and blessed day today, my friends!!!!! Linda

"Of course, part of the problem with redheads is that there aren't enough of them. They make up just two percent of the population. So they're pretty extraordinary. Redheads are too numerous to be ignored, too rare to be accepted." (Grant McCracken, author, lecturer, anthropologist)

This is my handsome and sweet little great nephew Cade Richardson held by his great grandfather Dewey Richardson.

I love Cade's bright red hair, and his big & bright personality. At 6 months old, he's such a little charmer. Those fat little cheeks crinkle into smiles all the time & he is a calm & happy baby that is a watcher. He watches the other children, he watches the adults & he is definitely observant of the people around him. He's happy and laughs a lot.

Obviously, his Great Grandfather Dewey is so proud of him. This is Dewey's first great grandchild, and my first great nephew. He's going to be a fun member of the "younger" group of kids in our family.

As you all may know - between Bill & I we have 9 grandchildren ranging in age from 17 years to 4 months. The most recent additions to our family are granddaughter Eleanor (5 months old) and granddaughter Kaylin (4 months old), so Mr. Cade being the oldest of the "younguns" will grow up with the girls and be best friends.

Hope you enjoy this happy shot of Cade and his Great Pa Pa.

Bill and I are headed home today to Dallas from the International Safari club show in Las Vegas. I'll have about 24 hours at home to re-pack, then hop on another plane Monday afternoon headed to work (for my real job) in Birmingham, AL for the rest of the week.

The Gators Didn't Get Her! :-)

January 11, 2012 As we were on our trip along the Gulf Coast through Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama - my sister kept saying that she wanted to see a real, live Alligator. She's never seen one before. Unfortunately, the weather was too cold and all the Alligators were hiding from us tourists. I even tried to get her to eat fried alligator, which by the way is really good - but she's not an adventurous eater, so I had to eat it all by myself - well, except for what Bill ate. :-)) Nevertheless wherever we went near the water that may have held alligators, we looked for them and hoped to spot one for her. Unfortunately it didn't happen, so I guess we'll have to go back in warmer weather. This is a shot of my brother-in-law holding my sister pretending to throw her in the water behind them so she could entice the alligators to surface. What fun we had, and this is just a shot of some of the silliness that we all enjoyed. I hope this gives you a smile today. Linda

  • A Very Curious Nature

    A Very Curious Nature

December 6, 2011 While on our way home back to Texas from the New Mexico adventures, we saw this old Railroad Depot building in Melrose, New Mexico - not too far from the Texas border. And being the "train" nuts that we are, we had to stop and explore. While we were there a train came roaring by, so that made it even more thrilling. The building was build in 1929 according to a marker we found. There wasn't anyone around that day, but then again it was Saturday so they could have had the day off. It was in decent repair, but the age was showing in the wood and the stucco siding. As you can see, Bill is trying to peer into one of the windows to see what's inside. I have to admit that I did the same thing. :-) There wasn't much to see, a couple of desks & desk chairs, but we didn't see any computers or sign that the building is "manned" on a regular basis. Take a peak at this in the larger sizes and you'll see lots of details. I couldn't quite tell if the building was at one time painted yellow (now tan), hence the yellow 'fade through' in the stucco on the lower right corner of this shot, or if perhaps that was an old 'sign' that had been there at one time. We never figured out exactly what it was - other than it was a bit of a mystery. Thanks for all you nice comments on my photos this week. Take care, Linda

  • Pure Joy!

    Pure Joy!

11/14/11 Our wedding redoux....... This photo is 2+ years old, but it's one that I cherish. My granddaughter Ashlee and I were looking at photos this weekend, and she wanted to look at the ones taken at mine & Bill's wedding in May, 2009. Ashlee was my maid of honor at the wedding, and this is a shot immediately after the ceremony when we were hugging each other. Ashlee and I both like this shot of us a lot. It always makes us both smile, because it is so clear how much we love each other and how much we enjoy spending time together. Ashlee begged me to post it as a Daily, so I told her that I would. So this is a shot for my precious granddaughter Ashlee - she loves looking at smugmug photos. I hope you all enjoy this shot of me and Ash taken on one of the happiest days of my life when I married my sweetheart Bill. Check it out in X2 if you have time. This was taken by our good friend Charlie Borella, and fellow Smugmugger. We held the wedding on our back patio at our home, and Ms. Ashlee was my Maid of Honor and grandson Case (you've seen many of his photos before) was Bill's Best Man at age 3. Here's our wedding album: http://lgood.smugmug.com/Events/Our-Wedding/8473423_mHGRdF#557135321_7R9ag Thanks for your comments on yesterday's Valu More Stamp photo from New Mexico. And a big congratulations to PapaMugger for his #1 shot of the gorgeous red poison ivy shot - it was gorgeous. I love being a part of the Daily Community and learn so much from all of you, and I thank you for your comments & help on my photos. You guys rock!!!!!!!!!!!! I should be able to stay fairly well caught up on comments this week, as I'm not traveling. Thank Goodness. Have a fantastic week my friends. Best regards, Linda Late Post: 2/19/2018 - Ashlee is now 18 years old. We were talking tonight and I told her that this photo had resurfaced. She said, let's re-create this photo Grandma. I said sure. Now, it would be her looking down at me (she's 5'11") at me (I'm 5'9"). We'll do that sometime.

Number 1 daughter getting ready for #2 daughter's wedding. Yes, I'm way, way behind in processing shots. I liked this shot of Chenoa as she was thinking about her sister coming down the trail for her outdoor and very lovely wedding.

Notice - it's another 'red' photo today!
