Our Friend Hillary Getting Hugged by One of Her Photography Subjects!
August 8, 2014
A couple of weekends ago I had the pleasure of joining up with our friends and fellow Smugmuggers Hillary Shemin and Kathy Clark in Gruene, TX to participate in the 3rd Malo-Con meeting & concert. There were people there who traveled from all over the U.S., Germany, U.K., Wales and other countries.
Hillary and Kathy have been following Raul Malo and the Mavericks for many years. Hillary has posted many, many amazing photos of the band both here on SM and on Facebook.
It was such fun to meet these two ladies and enjoy the music of the Mavericks. Gruene Hall was packed to the max this night - the capacity of the oldest music hall in Texas (established in 1878) is no more than 300 people. There is no air conditioning in this old hall. But luckily there is an outside garden adjacent to the hall where you can go & cool off and still hear the music very clearly via the open windows of the hall. I would estimate that there was an additional 250 people outside listening to the music.
Having been to Gruene Hall many times, I didn't take my primary camera, but brought my little point & shoot because of the crush of people and limited ability to have a bulky camera in the crowded hall. I was pleased with this shot from the P&S camera of Hillary and band member Robert Reynolds that was taken after the concert was over.

Enjoy your day today my friends, and listen to some music!
