BB King’s Guitar and Museum
January 23, 2019
We had no idea that the BB King Museum was in Indianola, Mississippi when we came into the town during our rambling trip in December 2016. Unfortunately, the museum was closed when we were there, so we didn’t get to go inside. Next time we are close however, we will be sure to visit. The website states, “From the cotton fields, street corners and juke joints of the Mississippi Delta came a new kind of music – the blues. Considered by many to be the only truly indigenous American music. This form has influenced musicians worldwide and is deeply rooted in Delta soil. And so the man who helped spread the blues as its foremost ambassador is Riley B.B. King.” BB was born in the nearby town of Itta Bena, Mississippi but he considered the nearby town of Indianola to be his home. You can see BB’s influence all over the town.
This is a replica of one of his guitars and it stands in front of the museum to welcome visitors. There are other replica guitars on different sections of the grounds as well.
“Blues is a tonic for whatever ails you. I could play the blues and then not be blue anymore.” ~ B. B. King
