The Monitor & Merrimac Buttes in Canyonlands N.P.
September 2, 2013
The Monitor and Merrimac buttes at the entry into Canyonlands National Park near Moab, Utah. The Monitor and Merrimac buttes were named after the Civil War ironclad ships of the same names. The shapes of the buttes when compared to the likeness of the old ships is striking. The Merrimac is on the left, and the Monitor on the right. These amazing butts tower 600 feet above their Navajo sandstone base. The buttes themselves are composed of Entrada sandstone, and can be seen for miles.
This is a 7 shot HDR, my second HDR attempt. Tomorrow, you'll see my first successful HDR. I think I'm kind of getting the hang of it, but I had several tries to get it to look right for me. In this one, I thought the lens vignette was kind of cool, so I left it alone.
Hope you like!
Thanks for your comments on my "H" shot yesterday. I really enjoyed seeing everyone's takes on H, and they were all so very creative. What fun! And thanks to Donna McCommon for creating this fun challenge.
Have a "butte" of a day, and enjoy the holiday.
