This is a small portion of the Battery Dearborn (1901-1931) which is a part of Fort Morgan which is the old harbor defense fort for Mobile Alabama. The constructions started in 1900 and was completed in 1901. It is a coastal gun battery with eight 12” M1890MI mortars mounted on M1896MI mortar carriages. There were four mortars in each pit. We rode a car ferry over and this was the first sight we saw after arriving on Alabama coastal land.
