MELTED GLASS…..
November 30, 2018
There is a shell of an old service station standing in Stoneburg, Texas. I remember as a child that it was defunct service station in the 1960s. My grandmother said at one time that she remembers when it was an operating business. It has been abandoned as long as I can recall. The building is made of glass, old bricks, stones and petrified wood. Recently I was passing by again and decided to stop and see if anything had changed with the old structure. It hadn’t, it still looks the same.
In 2009, the entire town of Stoneburg was almost totally destroyed by a horrific grass fire. Three people lost their lives and more than 100,000 acres were burned. Stoneburg is a tiny town, even if you don’t blink you might miss it totally. However, this structure still stands and continues to defy time and the elements. This is a close up of one of the chunks of glass that shows the how it was affected by the fire. I have posted a couple of photos in the past of this building. The last one was in 2014 which shows the whole of the shell. Here is the link to that photo: https://lgood.smugmug.com/Daily-Photos/Daily-Photos-1/i-6v9NT8r
“You don't stay undefeated without being a little stubborn.” ~ Andre Ward. And I would say, that this little building is quite stubborn. I for one am happy of its stubbornness and glad that after all these years, it’s still standing and is beautiful.
Thank you for your comments and critiques.
Have a brilliant day!
