Portion of a Mural ~ by Linda
March 5, 2023
This is a portion of one of the many wonderful murals in Tucumcari, NM. I loved the colors. The elements were fascinating to me. If you look you can see an old tractor, several cows including a short-horn and longhorn, the windmill, an old homestead and a church in the distance. I could imagine seeing all of these items in the era of the painting (based on the elements included). But then, if you look to the hill/mesa in the far background (slightly to the left) you will see a bunch of modern windmills. π Isnβt that cool? Anyway, I hope you enjoy this painting.
βI think New Mexico was the greatest experience from the outside world that I have ever had.β ~ D. H. Lawrence. As an aside, Bill and I were treated to a private collection of some of D.H. Lawrence paintings that reside in a hotel in Taos. They are not on public display, but if you know someone you can see them. They arenβt on display because some of them are a bit risquΓ©.
Thank you for your comments and critiques, I do appreciate them very much!
Have a wonderful day!

3 weeks agoVery neat mural, showing so much of New Mexico! Several years ago my sister and I spent a couple of nights at the DH Lawrence Ranch out of Taos--great history out there, including the memorial where Lawrence's ashes were interred after his wife Freida brought them back from France. (The woman who gave the ranch to Frieda, apparently a lover of his, told Frieda that she wanted his ashes--instead, she mixed them into the concrete for the memorial, saying "Now she'll never get them!") Frieda had given the ranch to the University of New Mexico in 1955, to be used for educational, cultural and recreational purposes. My sister worked for the university then, so had access to the rustic rooms there for a nominal fee.
