This gorgeous flower was photographed at Butchart Gardens in Victoria, Canada. That is one of the most amazing gardens I’ve ever had the pleasure to visit. I love the structure and color of this one. I believe (if memory serves me) is a Ball form of the Dahlia. I really loved the red color.
“In a meadow full of flowers, you cannot walk through and breathe those smells and see all those colors and remain angry. We have to support the beauty, the poetry, of life. Jonas Mekas
Lots of dahlia lovers among us (myself included) This pure red one is pure magic.
I, too, used to think that a spherical form qualified a dahlia to be called a ball type. I've since learned that the American Dahlia Society (ADS) is pickier than that, and also requires the petals in a ball dahlia to be curled up into virtual tubes. I think your dahlia would be classed as formal decorative. If you're sufficiently interested in such granular detail, here's a link to a dahlia that the ADS does recognize as "ball" for comparison with yours. https://arctangent.smugmug.com/Nature-Flora/Dahlia-project/Dahlias-accent-identified-cultivars/i-K6KSSrP/A
Bottom line, it doesn't matter if you know the cultivar name or the bloom type or even that it's a dahlia. It's just plain pretty.
