Zulu Queen
August 5, 2019
The name of this statue is the Zulu Queen. I loved the bird that was perched on top. The artist is Rafadzwa Tandi, and it is made from Springstone. A lot of the members that have been on Smug for quite some time have seen a fairly sizable number of sculptures that were a part of the ZimSculpt show at the Dallas Arboretum. The show featured many Zimbabwean artists and their work in the large, and stunning nature preserve that is the Arboretum. I don’t have too many other photos of the sculptures from the art show to share with you, as I’ve nearly exhausted the photos of the pieces of art that I took a few years ago. I hope to see another Zimbabwean show int the future. These artist creations are beautiful, thought provoking and provide great pleasure while looking at them.
“In my opinion, long and intense study of the human figure is the necessary foundation for a sculptor.” ~ Henry Moore

on August 5, 2019This is a special one for showing the skill of the artist at creating such different textures and colors from the same stone. A real tour de force.
I, too, hope to see another exhibit by these talented sculptors...some day.
