We made a friend the last time we were staying at The Atlantis hotel in 2011, we met a man that is a native of Nassau. We made friends, and he took his day off to take us all around Nassau in his personal car. We have talked to him every year since 2011 on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We let him know we were coming back to Nassau again this June and we were bringing the girls. He kindly agreed to spend most of his day off and drive all of us around the island. The girls really enjoyed getting to see the island and visit places that the locals enjoy and they loved the Conk Salad at the local place called the Fish Market.
The day we did our tour with Van, It was a very hot day, so when we stopped at a park near one of the beaches, the girls went straight for the water. Granddaughter Ashlee is the tall one with orange sunglasses on her head. Her best friend, since they were 5 years old, is Lily – she’s the one near the rocks.
Thank you for all the comments on yesterday’s photo on the colorful benches in The Bahamas. That photo was taken on Nassau Island which is south of the island of Grand Bahama by approximately 133 miles. The Grand Bahama island is where hurricane Dorian stayed for several days and where the bulk of the devastation happened. Nassau did receive a lot of rain and high winds, but as of Monday when we talked to our friend Van, there was no flooding or significant damage, thank goodness. Praying for the residents of Grand Bahama Island.
