"Songs with sirens in them should not be allowed on the radio as they trick me when I'm driving." ~ Unknown

This is a 1957 Chevy Bel Air - what more can be said?

It is indeed a classic.

Have a classic kind of day today my friends,

" Talk slow, talk low, and don’t talk too much." ~ John Wayne Roy

No need to talk much with boots like these. I'd think that they pretty much speak for themselves.

This shot was taken at the Corsicana, Texas Derrick Days car show and downtown festival recently. This couple was walking around admiring the cars, and I couldn't help but notice this young man's boots. Yes, the man is wearing the boots, and his lady friend is wearing the tennis shoes.

It made me smile - I thought the boots were pretty cool.

This photo has been processed with Picmonkey textures.

I hope this shot gives you a a brief moment to contemplate, reminds you to smile, to stop and smell the roses. Look around you, and admire someone's fashion sense today. Sometimes we see fashion that let's us know that the wearer is very brave. :-)

Have a wonderful weekend my friends!

""Oh what I wouldn’t give, if I could just live, like a man on a tractor, with a dog in a field."
~ Lyric from "A Man on a Tractor" song by Rodney Atkins.

Here's a happy little man! He sat in the seat of this big old Farmall tractor for hours pretending to drive the big machine, stopping for awhile to watch the visitor's to Corsicana's Derrick Days celebration walk up and down the street in front of him, talking to the men who were judging the tractor contest and just chillin' in the seat of this big red tractor.

He was so cute, and looked so little on top of that big tractor, that I couldn't resist taking his photo. I certainly hope this brings a big smile to you today too!

Thank you all for your great & kind comments on my girl riding the horse with the blue ribbon on the pony's tail! You guys ROCK!!

Happy Friday my friends!

"All horses deserve once in their life to be loved by a little girl." ~ Unknown

And obviously this young girl loves her horse. She had her decorated to match to blue of her shirt and cap. I caught this unusual sight of a horse and her girl riding down the sidewalks of downtown Corsicana, Texas during their annual Derrick Days celebration. We were there for the car show, but took a break to walk through all the food vendors and crafts booths. When I saw this young girl, it made me smile and I had to take her photo. She is on the raised sidewalk that runs in front of the shops, and I was standing in the street (slightly below her) when I took her photo.

I hope this makes you smile too!

Have a fine and joyous day today my friends!

Another beauty! Don't you just love those teardrop headlights? This is a 1939 Ford Sedan. Processed with Topaz Psychedelic filter. I liked the effect, hope you all do too.

Have a fantastic day today!

Another classic beauty! This 1946 Ford had such a unique color scheme. I really liked it a lot. It was one of the host club's cars, so it wasn't entered in the car show - just on display. I thought it was pretty snazzy.

This shot was processed with Topaz detail filter and I really like the way it brought out the reflections (you all know how much I love reflections, particularly in cars). If you look closely you can see an SP of me in the front fender and in part of the hood. Also, the reflections in the hood show many of the shows visitors walking around enjoying all the neat cars.

Thanks to you all for all you nice comments on yesterday's Orange Willys car shot. I was thrilled that it did well, but most of all I was thrilled with your comments. You guys ROCK!

Have multi-colored day of fun today my friends!

"I play the harmonica. The only way I can play is if I get my car going really fast, and stick it out the window." ~ Steven Wright

And I would bet that this stunning 1941 Willys will go really, really fast. This orange beauty was seen recently at a car show in Corciscana, TX. I loved the color, the shape and the details of this jewel. According to Wikipedia: Willys (correctly pronounced "Will-is", but almost universally as "Will-eez") was the brand name used by Willys-Overland Motors, an American automobile company best known for its design and production of military Jeeps (MBs) and civilian versions (CJs) during the 20th century.

Have a really glorious Monday, and start the week off right with a happy smile!

Check this out in the larger sizes my friends. This is another of the Junkanoo dancers at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. I was really interested and intriqued that all the dancers wore costumes that were different. I asked one of the dancers afterwards, "who tells you what your costumes should look like?"

She said, "No one tells us what they should be - we all create our own costumes ourselves and they reflect our heart."

So this fine young man created his costume in Red, White and Blue and the stars and stripe of the U.S.A. which I was thrilled to see. I also was thrilled to see costumes that were created in the colors of Mexico, Argentina, Britain, and others. And some costumes were in colors that I couldn't attribute to any country - so they were created by the individual to reflect their own favorite colors.

The PP on this was only the frame from PicMonkey. Check it out in the larger sizes.

Hope you enjoy this colorful shot!

Have a fantastic and freedom loving day my friends! And, happy mother's day to all the Smugmug Moms!

"Be like Curious George, start with a question and look under the yellow hat to find what's there." ~ James Collins

Well my friends, the stick challenge from yesterday was so much fun. Even though I didn't enter a stick, I sure loved seeing your shots. Always creative & fun.

Smugmuggers ROCK!!

Here's another shot of one of the hats and costumes worn by the Junkanoo performers at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.

I loved all the color - Red is my favorite color & Godschild's too - so I had to share this with you.

We are off early this morning to shoot in one of many sporting clay tournaments that support one of our favorite charities. We'll have a great time - and I'll be back later to comment on your photos.

Have a 'red-letter' day today!!!!!!!!!!

“If manta rays are going to be harmless, they should look more harmless. Those 'guys' look like aquatic Draculas.” ~ Christopher Moore

I took a little "editorial license" with this quote to remove the "colorful" name used to describe the giant oceanic Manta Rays. But rest assured, I agree - they should "look" harmless, but they are absolutely scary looking.

And these two were GIGANTIC! Again, this shot was taken from the 9th floor balcony of our hotel room at the Atlantis Resort and through the water of the giant aquarium that you've seen in a few other shots from Atlantis. It's hard to tell the size of these guys in this shot (check it out in larger sizes), but I can tell you that if the woman who is standing on the bridge looking at them were to lay down on their back with her toes at one wingtip and stretch out to the other wingtip, she wouldn't streatch much past a third of their back span..

According to Wikipedia: Manta rays are circumglobal and are typically found in tropical and subtropical waters, although oceanic manta rays can be found in temperate waters. Manta rays have the largest brain-to-body ratio of the sharks, rays and skates (Elasmobranchii), with ratios approaching what is expected in mammals rather than in fishes.

I wasn't able to get out and get a 'stick' to participate in Kenneth's challenge today, but maybe you all could consider the Manta Ray's tails as a sort of 'stick' - (wink). I'll be enjoying your stick photos though!!!

Thank you all for all the wonderful and kind comments that you left for me on my Junkanoo dancer photo from yesterday.

Have a warm and happy Friday today my friends.

"Once you embody the language, the character comes really naturally, especially when you put the costume on." ~ Lucy Liu

This lady is one of the performers at the Junkanoo show at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. For more information on Junkanoo, check out my potd from Monday here: http://lgood.smugmug.com/Other/Daily-Photos/12484643_NvHx9n#!i=1807747095&k=DjMjgBz

The show was so entertaining and the costumes were brilliant and so colorful. Since I love color, I took lots of photos of them. This woman had such a wonderful smile and big, bright eyes, it was obvious that she was enjoying what she does.

Right behind her, if you think you are seeing a red, 55 gallon drum, your eyes are not deceiving you - that's exactly what it is. There were several of them in the band, and they were being played as drums as the dancers and musicians put on the show. What fun!

Check this out in X2 for details and wonderful color. And for Indigo, this is H for Happiness!

Thank you all so very much for all your comments on my "Beast" car photo yesterday! I was blown away and so tickled to read all that you had to say. And, a few of my old shots popped back up again with new comments - thank you for those too. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a 'dance like no one is watching' sort of day today my friends,

Linda
Lgood > May 9, 2012

I don't know what it is - but if nothing else, it certainly is unique!!!!!

Here's the Beast car, seen recently at a classic car show. As I said before - I don't know what this car was 'born' to be, but here's what it is today. I looked for an information card that might give me a clue to make, model, year - but there was none.

So suffice it to say - it's probably one of a kind.

Have a unique day full of pleasant surprises!

1953 Chevy Convertible

"Another way to solve the traffic problems of this country is to pass a law that only paid-for cars be allowed to use the highways." ~Will Rogers

Rest assured that most of the classic car owners have paid for their cars many times over, but for the love of these old beauties, we keep them running, keep them polished and love them even as we write the check for one more part or piece to make sure they survive for as long as possible.

This wonderful Aqua Blue 1953 Chevrolet Convertible was out at a recent car show in Corsicana, Texas. It was a real beauty and had many people around admiring it's sleek lines and beautiful color and shape. I didn't get the chance to ask the owner if this paint color was a factory original color to the car, but I believe that it was. Oftentimes people change the colors of the cars, and I am OK with that - but for me, I like to keep it factory original and thus my 1969 Mach 1 and Bill's 1966 Fairlane wear the same colors they had when they rolled out of the factory.

This was our first car show of the season (yes, we're behind this year - too many other competing 'events' for us to attend) and I'm please to tell you that both Bill and I took home trophies in the top 20 cars out of 130 that were there. So that was cool.

On the last night of our trip to the Bahamas, we were treated to a Junkanoo show. It was glorious, fun, and exciting. This is a shot of one of the entertainers in costume, there will be more to come in the future.

According to Wikipedia, the Junkanoo tradition is "a street parade with music, which occurs in many towns across The Bahamas, Jamaica, and The Turks and Caicos Islands every Boxing Day (December 26), New Year's Day and, more recently, in the summer on the island of Grand Bahama. The origin of the word Junkanoo is rather obscure. Some people believe it comes from the French "L'inconnu", which means, "the unknown", in reference to the masks worn by the paraders. Others believe it comes from "junk enoo", the Scottish settlers' reference to the parades, meaning "junk enough"; or "John Canoe," the name of an African tribal chief who, in the 17th century, demanded the right to celebrate with his people even after being brought to the West Indies in slavery."

The instruments for the Junkanoo celebration includes drums, horns, cowbells and scrapers. The costumes are intricate and elaborate and beautiful. This event was wonderful and we were very honored to have been able to experience it first hand.

Have a carefree and "junk free" sort of day today my friends!

"A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work."
~ Colin Powell

This lady is a street vendor that was selling wares on one of the streets in Nassau, Bahamas. We saw her late in the day and she was taking down her umbrella and beginning to pack up her wares for the day.

I really liked the way all of the wonderful colors worked together in this shot, which was taken from a moving car.

Hope you enjoy and have a very colorful day today my friends.
