There's just something about old pickup trucks....................

Not sure how one could collect so many old pickup trucks, but here's living proof that someone has spent a lot of time and money collecting old trucks. We were recently on our way to my sister's surprise birthday party and we were taking some old back roads just to see some parts of north Texas and southern Oklahoma that we'd never seen before. Thank goodness for GPS - or we'd have never made it back to civilization. :-))

Along one of those small backroads on this misty day, we spotted this field of old pickup trucks and were greatly surprised at how many of them there were. This is but a small portion of those that were parked all over a field. If you look at this in the larger sizes, you'll see another line of old trucks in the mid-ground and to the right of the shot.

I liked the way this one turned out with all the colors that were brought out by the rain, the pickup trucks, the cows, the mist in the distance and the farm pond. Take a look at this in the larger sizes, there's lots to see.

Take the slow road occasionally, and have "laid back" sort of day my friends!

Linda

PS - thank you all for your comments on my 'Buick Special' photo that came back up in the Daily Community yesterday. It was taken about a year ago - and one of my 'all time' most popular. I appreciated your comments on this old shot, and am humbled that you guys would take a look at it again. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spring Car Shows are just around the corner, and I'm itching for some new classic auto shots. Have a great Sunday!!

Speed...

Q "Dad, why did you redlight?"
A "Because the light was too slow."

This is Mike Dunn's question to his father, Big Jim Dunn in the 'Funny Car Summer' movie.

This is a shot from the 'All Ford' drag races at the Texas Motorplex.

There were all kinds of Fords there and they were old ones as well as new ones like the two that are seen racing here.

We recently acquired a new "Ford" for our stable. It's a 2008 Stage 3 Roush Mustang. It's triple black (convertible). It's probably going to get to go stretch it's pony legs out on the drag strip at the next All Ford event there.

The Stage 3 Roush is getting ready to make a couple of the Spring car shows around the area. As soon as I get it cleaned up, I'll take some photos of it to share with you. Right now, it's pretty cosy sitting in the garage next to the 1969 Mach 1.

Have a 'fast and fun' day today my friends!

And speaking of racing (see yesterday's potd), these are the types of race cars that I'm sure Benjamin was pretending to be driving when he had his tricycle crash as seen in yesterday's potd.

And thanks to all of you for your kind comments about Benjamin's photos. He'll be thrilled!!!

This is a shot of two cars 'burning off' before lining up at the tree to race at the Texas Motorplex near Ennis, Texas. The '69 Mustang of course was one of my favorites in this "All Ford" day at the drag strip. It was neat to be behind the start line to take photos, and I took advantage of it and took many shots, but this one was my favorite.

Have a 'racing' good day my friends!

For those of you who have young children, especially boys, you'll know what this is a shot of.

We have a whole host of young grandchildren who LOVE the "Cars" and "Cars 2" movies.

For those of you who haven't seen the movie, these toy cars are characters from the annimated movies. And we LOVE them.

We stopped into a toy store while in Las Vegas to get some trinkets for the grandchildren, and I couldn't resist taking a photo of the Cars characters in the glass case. These are sitting on the top of the glass of a multi-layered case.

You can see in this photo that there are many layers of toy cars below and beneath the movie star cars.

Processed with Topaz HDR filter. Best viewed in larger sizes.

"Ka-Chow" says me & Lightening McQueen - we both like this shot!

If you haven't seen the original, you've got to rent it - it's great for adults and children, and................... you'll get the "ka-chow" comment on this photo.

Race towards your dreams today my friends!

Best viewed in larger sizes.

This is a shot of my husband Bill, doing what he does best (and what he LOVES doing)..............he is being his curious self.

He's especially curious about cars & trucks. And he's a master of figuring them out, and I love them too.

On the recent vacation trip (hope you guys aren't sick of the travel photos) we spent the night in Vicksburg, Mississippi on our way back home to Texas. The next morning, we couldn't leave the town of Vicksburg without exploring. So, as we were driving around, we stumbled upon this old, abandoned gasoline station that had this 1960's something MG, Model A car parked on the back of the old (circa 1940s) COE (cab over engine) truck.

When we spotted this place, the Ford Expedition (my car) that Bill was driving came to a screeching halt - literally, the tires were smoking.

After Expedition that the 4 of us were riding in came to a stop (I think it was still rolling, and I had to throw it in park to stop the beast); my sweetheart Bill & my brother-in-law literally fell out of the car & ran..........

Seriously, the guys ran under the awning of this old service station to check this out.

Seconds after the guys abandoned the Expedition, my sister & I watched them falling over themselves and running toward their "find" for a couple of seconds........ then we departed the Expedition in a very "lady-like" & "dainty" fashion (are you laughing yet?) to slowly follow the men (with cameras in hand) under the awning of this ancient service station to view this treasure that obviously had enchanted the men. My sister & I were giggling all the way............

Gee, the place was dusty & full of cobwebs, but my sister & I were troopers and followed the men around with our cameras capturing their joy of exploration. It was great!

Check this out in X2 or X3.

Hope you enjoy this today, and that it gives you some sense of the fun, exploration & silliness that we enjoyed on our trip.

Have a great day my friends,

Linda

"It's got to be spic & span'd for the show"

Here's a shot of our friend & neighbor, Don Schultz, detailing his lovely red 1957 Chevy Cameo Truck.

He worked hard to get it shining, and won a trophy for best truck at the show.

One more thing - I love all the red in this shot, and I'm thinking so will Godschild.

Best wishes,
Linda

1937 Dodge Coupe

Happy New Year's Eve to all Smugmuggers!!!!!!!!!!!

This is another classic car hood ornament shot. I don't think that this is 'original' to the car, but it could be, I'm just not sure. And the owner wasn't nearby for me to ask. This "hoodie" is on a gorgeous & highly customized 1937 Dodge Coupe.

Here's a shot of the full car for you to enjoy:

Take care & be safe, and have a great New Year's Eve celebration my friends.

"Catch the Wind"

This is a hood ornament called "Catch the Wind" and is on a gorgeous1935 Buick. As most of you know, I love the old hood ornaments on antique cars, and this is one of my favorite "hoodies".

The day that I took this shot, it was bright and high sunshine, so I was lucky enough to get some great 'sunbursts' on the hood of the car. But more than anything, I love the reflections on the lady's face and body that show the colors of the many cars that were parked nearby, as well as the blue sky reflected in her upturned face. I think this is probably my most favorite hood ornament shot to date, and it is SOOC.

Please check it out in X3 to see all the details.

We are still on our vacation - and having loads of fun. I'm going to be bringing back lots of photos from the trip to share with you over the next few weeks.

Best regards,
Linda
