“Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.” ~ Maurice Setter

I spotted this beautiful shaft of late evening sunshine radiating from behind the cloud. Indeed all clouds have silver linings, and we should count our blessings each day.

This is an SOOC shot that was taken from the passenger window of the car as we were on the way home from a long, hot day. It made me smile.

I hope you have a day full of smiles today my friends!

Charro is a term for the traditional horseman of Mexico. This is one of a whole collection of old posters that were framed in one of our banking centers in Brownsville, Texas -taken with my "little camera" on one of my many business trips.

This framed poster is from the silver anniversary in 1962. In 1937, to lift community spirits during difficult times, the Charro Days Fiesta was created in Brownsville, Texas. During the Great Depression, local business leaders searched for an antidote to the gloom that engulfed Brownsville and the rest of the country.

One year later, the community came together for the very first Charro Days to celebrate what made Brownsville unique: Its location on the border with Mexico and the rich cultural heritage enjoyed by Brownsville’s residents.

From the very first celebration, Brownsville residents and visitors dressed in the traditional costumes of Mexico and honored the Mexican cowboys -- the Charros -- who were heroes of the borderlands.

Horse-drawn, hand-made floats proceeded through downtown Brownsville in those early years, with marching bands from Mexico, soldiers from old Fort Brown and children from area schools dressed as charros and chinas.

The Charro Days Fiesta is still going strong today and generally held each February. Elegant costume balls, the traditional parades with wonderfully colorful floats, street dances and celebrations of the Mexican heritage of this area are important events during the celebration.

Hi everyone!!! I sure hope your 4th of July was safe, fun and full of friends. This photo was treated to a "night-time" filter in Topaz Adjust.

Have a wonderful day today my friends!

Pegasus, the flying horse. Don't you wish this myhical creature was real? Wouldn't you like to take a ride, err...a flight on his powerful, winged back?

Yep, me too.

This is one of the many pieces of art all over the Atlantis Resort. This beautiful fountain is at the main entrance to the Royal Towers - the section that we stay in. I've always loved the legend of the Pegasus - so how could I not take a photo of these beauties?

Check this out in Xlarge - the detail on these creatures is wonderful.

Thank you all so much for your awesome and wonderful comments on my potd - it is so gratifying and educational to hear what you think. Thanks again.

So - have you heard????????? The Thumbs Down & Thumbs Up feature has been removed from the Daily Community! Yee-ha! Thanks to everyone for their diligence, comments and work with SM to get the destructive Thumbs Down to go away.

So sorry I wasn't able to comment yesterday - work & duty called, and I was playing catch up from being away last week - plus my evening was taken up with a situation that kept me away from the computer. But rest assured, I'll do my best to catch up tonight!

SmugMugger's ROCK!!!

Have a soaringly good day today my friends where all your dreams come true!

I've included this shot in my "Statues, Art & Other" gallery because to me, this field of wind generators is indeed a giant work of art. Rising high above the flat earth of west Texas, they are just beautiful. You cannot imagine the size of these machines unless you have stood underneath one. I hope you enjoy this shot of "mechanical" art.

While in Houston on a business trip recently, we had dinner at the "Up" restaurant. It is a great place to eat and the atmosphere is wonderful. This is an extreme closeup of the chandelier hanging in the bar area.

I loved all the colors reflected from the crystals in the fixture, and of course the abstract feel of this shot. For the full view of this gorgeous chandelier click here:

If ever you are in Houston and want an excellent meal - stop by Up for a while. You'll be glad that you did.

Have a happy and colorful day full of joy my friends!!!

"Everything on the earth has a purpose, every disease an herb to cure it, and every person a mission." Native American Mourning Dove (Christal Quintasket) quote.

According to the Cornell Lab of Orinthology: A graceful, slender-tailed, small-headed dove that’s common across the continent. Mourning Doves perch on telephone wires and forage for seeds on the ground; their flight is fast and bullet straight. Their soft, drawn-out calls sound like laments. When taking off, their wings make a sharp whistling or whinnying. Mourning Doves are the most frequently hunted species in North America.

I have oftentimes been walking outside and heard (but not seen) a flock of doves taking off - their flight sounds are so distinctive that you instantly know it's a dove. We've had a dove nest in our front shrub and watched her hatch her babies there in year's past. I never tire of taking photos of doves, they are so lovely.

This shot was taken outside the entrance of the Hacienda del Sol in Tucson, AZ where we had dinner on one of my recent business trips. If ever you are in Tucson, please take the time to visit this place, it is nestled at in the mid-range of the mountains and offers stunning vistas of the local area and downtown Tucson. The restaurant is first class and the accomodations are said to be stunning.

Have a "cooingly" great day my friends!!!

This is a collage of the laser light show on Freemont Street, downtown Las Vegas. It's quite spectactular. And there were just so many beautiful scenes that I couldn't pick just one, so I decided to make a collage of them.

Hope you enjoy.

A couple of weeks ago you saw a collage of the laser show lights at the Fremont Street Experience located in fabulous Downtown Las Vegas.

This is a single shot of but just a small portion of the laser show. The canopy is the most obvious and largest part of the Fremont Street Experience and is called the Viva Vision canopy and light show. The canopy towers 90 feet above the ground and spans the length of five football fields. Featuring more than 12 million LED modules and 555,000-watt sound system, the light show, the music that is set to the changing scenes on the canopy attracts tourists and locals alike.

The first light show debuted in 1995. Nearly a decade later, the Viva Vision canopy had $17 million worth of upgrades. Today, the canopy offers 10 times higher resolution, resulting in clearer, sharper pictures. In addition, it can also display 16.7 million color combinations. The display is so sharp, live video can be broadcast on what is the world's largest screen.

Check this out in the larger sizes, you will see two silhouetted figures near the top of the canopy and in the foreground of this photo.

What you are seeing is two actual humans, who are experiencing the 800 foot-long zip line that carries riders along the laser show canope at just over 30 miles per hour.

The Viva Vision light canopy is one heck of a show that gives an amazing display of images coordinated with music that is just a once in a lifetime experience.

Thank you all for your comments on my collage of all the great 'visions' on the canopy a week & a half or so ago.

Make it a fantastic Tuesday my friends!!!
